Inbound Marketing, Strategy

Marketing strategy.
The thing everyone says you need.
But what does it mean?

Plant your eyeballs on the video below to get the lowdown on everything a marketing strategy is.

What is a Marketing Strategy?

Simply put, it’s a long-term plan that helps support your marketing goals. The belt that holds up your marketing pants. It’s the fundamental steps you take to achieve your desired outcome. If your current marketing strategy isn't working, it's time for a refresh. You have to ask yourself, "what am I trying to do and what is the plan to get there?" Maybe you're trying to drive awareness about your product or gain traffic on your website. Whatever your goal is, you have to build a multi-step plan to get there. But, whipping up a solid long-term plan isn’t like whipping up your favorite batch of brownies. It takes insight.

Fundamentals of a Marketing Strategy

Market Research

In order to reach your goal, you must first know the audience you’re trying to reach. Have a conversation with your existing customers and find out what consumers’ needs and preferences are. Essentially, develop your persona profile. Once you know what your audience is looking for, you can better tailor your content marketing strategy to reach that audience.

Competitor Analysis

Next, get a feel for what your competitors are doing. Analyze their marketing approach and evaluate their strategy. Determine their strengths and their weaknesses relative to your own company and establish how your product can stand out amongst it. Keep your friends close, keep your enemies closer is a real humdinger tidbit of advice for this step!

Website Usage

Become acquainted with how current users are navigating your website. Sites like HotJar and Inspectlet can help track visitors clicks and page views, record sessions to see exactly how visitors are using the site, and show what content is being consumed the most by heatmap. Monitoring what visitors are looking at and how they are using your site shows what's important to your audience and how you can better accommodate your website to serve that interest.

Once you’ve done your data digging, you can take action on renovating your website, catering your content to better fit your audience, and targeting your consumers effectively. These are only a few marketing strategy examples. Want more? Drop us a line and we'll spill our knowledge.
